I am intrigued by the culture of ‘beach-goers’. I encounter a rawness in these subjects; an honesty and vulnerability. We all seem equal when stripped of our clothes and exposed to the elements in the way we are on the beach. There is definitely a humorous quality to the paintings and yet some figures seem alone and deeply melancholic.

The people who catch my eye are not your classic magazine beauties. The shape of an aging lady standing in kelp or a large man perched on a rock are more attractive to me and in their awkwardness and exposure, are simply beautiful.
